Satellite Receiver Decoders

Tested and qualified VideoCipher II initial production.
Developed initial functional design for digital satellite system (DSS) architecture.
Evaluated and tested equipment from Toshiba, Sony, and 6 other manufacturers as part of Crimson Satellite Associates qualification program.
Developed test plans and procedures for qualification of initial DSS equipment.

For Home Box Office, Sega Channel, and Excite@Home I have performed detailed reviews of capabilities of multiple generations of set top boxes developed by General Instruments/Motorola, Scientific-Atlanta, Boca, and others.
Developed functional requirements for advanced settop box to support ExciteTV broadband services.

Personal Video Recorders

Developed component bill of materials analysis of PVR function. Analyzed bandwidth requirements and caching alternatives for advanced PVR systems with broadband IP connectivity.

Software Systems Experience

Conditional Access

Particpated in design reviews of VideoCipherII conditional access design. Developed acceptance test plans and procedures for VideoCipherII control systems.
Participated in functional requirements specification of DSS conditional access system. Supported development and testing of DSS conditional access system.

Electronic Program Guides

Developed data architecture for DirecTV electronic program guide (EPG)system, including virtual channel paradigms, descriptive and purchase information packet pointers. Wrote functional interface specifications for EPG system and listing database service provider. Managed implementation and test program for initial EPG operational system.

Internet Systems

Worked on provisioning extensions for non-cable modem devices on the @Home high speed network. Worked on network data storage and transaction systems for IP services (including e-wallet, personal preferences, and 'walled garden' functions) to advanced settop boxes.
